CONEBI predicts e-bike sales to more than double in Europe by 2025
CONEBI predicts that e-bike sales will more than double to 6.5 million units in the next five years.
CONEBI President Boucher: 2019 will be a very good year for the bicycle industry in the European Union, as evidenced by the continued strong development of e-bikes in Europe and the increasing production capacity of bicycle spare parts. Making a contribution.
Marcelo, Managing Director of CONEBI: The European electric-assist bicycle market will continue to flourish in the coming years if the following three basic conditions are met.
1. EPAC (Electric Power Assisted Cycle), which is currently in a favorable state at the regulatory level (excluding the legal procedure for EU category certification), means no category certification, no mandatory motor vehicle insurance, no mandatory wearing of motorcycle helmets, no driver's license, and the ability to travel in bike lanes.
2. In response to the epidemic, the EU's positive trend of promoting bicycle travel continues, with increased investment in bicycle infrastructure to provide dedicated lanes and safety for bicycle travel.
3.The continuous improvement of intelligent transport systems within the EU legal and technical framework enables cars and buses to automatically detect unforeseen riders in time at blind spots on the road, thus making bicycle travel safer.
Total bicycle production in Europe in 2019 increased by 11% year-on-year, with electric bicycle production showing strong growth of 60% year-on-year. This has prompted many manufacturers to invest in production and assembly, with some of them shifting their business operations centres back to Europe. The gross value of bicycle components reached €2 billion in 2019.
Investment in the bicycle industry has also increased employment opportunities, providing more than 60,000 direct jobs, as well as 60,000 indirect jobs upstream and downstream. In total, 120,000 jobs were created, an increase of 14.4% compared to 2018 and 32% compared to 2017.
